When preparing your hospital bag, it’s a good idea to make separate lists for the items needed for the mother and the baby. During and after pregnancy, your body will go through changes, and you will need different clothes and care products to adapt more easily to motherhood.
For mothers, the main essentials include: a front-opening nightgown, nursing bras, breast pads, nipple cream for sensitive nipples, several pairs of comfortable underwear, sanitary pads, slippers, a pair of socks, a nursing cover, phone and charger, body lotion or oil, and hospital documents.
For your baby’s preparation list, be sure to include: a going-home outfit, a blanket, a muslin cloth, newborn diapers, baby wipes, diaper cream, and baby lotion.
What to Have in the Going-Home Bag
You should also be prepared for the trip back home from the hospital. Having your newborn essentials ready will make this process smoother. For your baby’s feeding needs, make sure you have: a bottle, bottle brush, bottle strap, pacifier, pacifier case, burp cloth, and muslin bib.
Thinking ahead for the car and outdoors, you should also prepare: a car seat or infant carrier, a stroller, a diaper bag, a thermal bag (for expressed milk and bottles), a changing mat, and a baby carrier.
